I want to give away this old computer but before I do it, I want to reformat the hard disk,so no information in the disk will be available to the new owner

Clickhereand follow the instructions. When you reach step 5, insert its original disk or a compatible retail Mac OS X DVD, restart with the C or Option key held down, use the Disk Utility to erase the internal drive, and install a fresh OS.
